Unity in diversity in India
Unity in diversity in India
The phrase "unity in diversity" was first coined by Jawaharlal Nehru. In simple terms, if we have to understand the meaning of the phrase "unity in diversity" once you can roam in a park or in a garden. You can see different kinds of flowers in the garden. Their colour, smell, height, size etc all are different but however that all types of different flowers grow in the same soil that means in a garden. For example, our country India is also a good example. We all know that India is really a different country than others. There are varieties of peoples, cultures, languages, and religions in India. We the citizens of India respect all religions and live peacefully. Because we believe in unity. Only one thing is similar between us, that is we are Indians and we live in India.
India is a secular state. Supporters of every religion have been given the right to follow their religion freely. Religious minorities are given freedom to safeguard their cultural language and script. India is a religiously diverse nation because followers of the world's major religions reside in India. India has accepted the principles of secularism and thus, making difference between people based on religion is prohibited. To preserve culture, tradition, language and script special fundamental rights are provided to the minorities.
During the British rule people from different cultural, religious and regional backgrounds came to oppose them. British thought that they could divide Indians due to diversity. But the people showed how they could be different and yet be United in their battle against the British. Symbols and songs that emerged during freedom serve as a constant reminder of our country's rich tradition of respect for diversity. People from different religion, cultures fought shoulder to shoulder against the British colonial rulers in India's war of independence. Our national flag has also a different story. In our national flag there are three colours saffron that represents Hindu, white means Christian and green means Muslim not only this our flag has also another meaning like food, prosperity, peace etc. Our Indian flag also shows diversity but however we are united.
One reason that our country India got independence is our unity also. Diversity in our strength that keeps all Indian United. In our country there are many states and every state has a particular religion, languages, cultures etc. Maybe our religion is different but all religious goals are the same. We believe in love and friendship. We respect all religions, cultures and live peacefully.
India is also a culturally diverse nation. One finds cultural diversity in different fields like customs, tradition, occupation, hairstyle, food, habits, festivals, norms, values, music, dance and lifestyle. Moreover constitution of India has discrimination done based on caste. In this way, unity in diversity exists in India.
