Women Safety in India

Human ,even being the most conscious and advanced creature, has created many obstacles to hinder its own advancement. Casteism , racism and gender discrimination are the notables evils that have been crippling the society since long. Although Casteism is confined to South Asia ,Gender Discrimination is a global phenomenon. 

Let’s see how safe women are in India-

India, a land of women deities, there are occasions like Navratri in which women are worshipped . But reality is very different on the ground.
Sex ratio indicated the number of women per thousand male. The natural ratio should be one thousand women to one thousand male but census 2011 says that there are only 946 women in India per 1000 male. Where are 54 women? 

Female foeticide is an important reason behind such a situation.
Although examining the sex of a child is illegal ,but still many people are practising it.

Women face terrible domestic violence. According to report of National Commission for women , domestic violence has increased 21% in India during lockdown.
Report of National family Health Survey says,” One third of women in India experienced domestic violence but only 1 % sought help (2015-16)“.
Other problems women face in India are Rapes, acid attack, honour killing and dowry death etc. NCRB data ,2018 says , 1 rape reported every minute in India. 

Every fourth victim is a minor. So cruelty has crossed all limits. India has the highest incidence of acid attack in the world. Most of the acid attack victims are women. Around 300 acid attacks are reported each year. Around 7621 dowry death took place in 2016 . In most of the dowry death, women commit suicide when they face intolerable violence. 

So women safety seems a very distant goal.

It is true that government has taken many steps to transcends the condition of women but the efforts are not adequate. Schemes like Beti Bachao ,Beti padao and kanyashree has widened the mindset of people. Women are successfully stepping their food in every field. But their numbers are very limited. More efforts are needed.

Many parents don’t send their daughter to school to save money for her marriage. Educated people and govt have to make such people understand that sending school will create opportunities for girl to be economically independent which will be helping family too.

The biggest challenge is to change the mindset of people. As we grew up in male dominating society so our mind is deeply attached with patriarchal nature.

Lastly people should understand that there is bigger purpose like creation and continuity of creation behind the private organs of women so they should stop attaching their mind with immoral thought. Only changing the mindset can give dignity to women.

One reason behind India’s poor economic performance is we ignore women workforce. Ignoring women means ignoring half of the workforce. In such a situation ,India can’t progress.

All rational minded people from all genders ,caste and creed should come ahead to settle down the gender problem. Otherwise India will fail to cope with time.
